Position Title: Project Officer (Bangladesh National)

Position Description:
The Project Officer supports RIMES projects in Bangladesh in the following areas: support to project activities at national and field levels; provide technical support in tool/application development, assist in recording and reporting of project expenditures; assist in research, documentation, and periodic reporting of project implementation; and assist in project evaluations. The Project Officer also supports the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) as per requirement.
Duty station:
Any Office of RIMES in Dhaka. RIMES has right to change duty station whenever necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge:
  • Bachelors, degree in water resources or civil engineering, environmental management, international development, economics, planning, or management.
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Efficient in at least one programming language
  • Hydrological/hydraulic modelling
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent English proficiency in communication, presentation, and report writing
  • Demonstrated research skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Support implementing projects
  • Uptake research, provide technical support in model development, application development
  • Coordinate with partners at national down to local levels to facilitate implementation of project activities
  • Gather data and information required to support tool development, risk and user need assessments .
  • Assist in assessments, meetings, training workshops, forums, conferences, and related preparatory events
  • Assist in processing for activity budget; record and report expenditures against budget, with proper support documentation, at completion of project activity
  • Undertake field visits to monitor implementation of activities as required, as well as receive local level feedback
  • Assist installation of equipment, such as automatic rain gauges, tide gauge, etc.
  • Assist in the facilitation and management of field visits by donors and partners
  • Assist in the documentation and dissemination of best practices and lessons learnt
Support to monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Keep track of project deliverables and timelines to ensure timely delivery
  • Assist in identifying constraints and problems in efficient project delivery, and suggest corrective actions
  • Gather data and information on progress of implementation against project targets and performance indicators
  • Assist in periodic review of project logical frameworks, and provide inputs for revision of performance indicators as necessary
  • Assist in impact assessment studies
Others
  • Support FFWC/BMD in areas of need, as assigned by immediate supervisors
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisors

Contract Duration:
The contract will initially be for one year and will be extended upon satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary term and each annual performance review.
