RIMES research on climate change deepens understanding of climate variability, potential impacts, and coping strategies. Regional and global assessments of climate change reveal a trend of higher frequency of extreme climate and weather events. This impact of climate change will be of greatest practical significance to communities and, more significantly, to livelihoods planning. RIMES generated country specific climate projections will help countries formulate five to ten year adaptation plans across sectors and at both the local and national levels.

RIMES identifies and captures likely climate change scenarios by downscaling climate information from global circulation models to a specific location. RIMES employs methods and tools for analysis, interprets the global and regional circulation models, and generates tailor made downscaled information scenarios for the countries. Additionally, RIMES assists countries in interpreting the impacts of climate change scenarios for national planning.
