Patchanok Srivihok (PhD)
Coastal Hydrodynamics Scientist

Patchanok leads RIMES research and development activities in tsunami early warning; tsunami risk assessment, tsunami forecast model and tsunami database development, and research. She also supports the RIMES 24/7 earthquake monitoring and tsunami watch provision services, serving as staff on-call.

Patchanok's areas of expertise are in coastal hydrodynamics, Tsunami modeling, flood modeling, hydraulic engineering, water resource engineering, and applied research. Her prior work experience includes development of mathematical models for decision support systems in water resource and environmental management, and field investigations and research in river mouth morphology, and coastal hydrodynamics. Patchanok's research interests are coastal hazard risk assessment and evacuation planning. Patchanok holds a Doctorate Degree in Civil Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan, and a Master Degree in Water Engineering and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.


Teraphan Ornthammarath (PhD)
Scientist- Seismic Risk Evaluation and Mitigation

As the Scientist- Seismic Risk Evaluation and Mitigation, Teraphan leads the development and application of numerical seismic hazard and risk evaluation for making risk reduction decisions , and the research and capacity building program on numerical seismology. He also serves week long standby duty to support the tsunami and earthquake investigation team.
Prior to joining RIMES, Teraphan worked with the Italian-Thai Development (ITD) PLC. Teraphan holds a Doctoral Degree in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from the ROSE School (Italy), a Masters Degree in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from the ROSE School (Italy) and Universite Joseph Fourier, France, and a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Thammasat University (Thailand)

Teraphan's main research activities are in earthquake engineering and engineering seismology, particularly in seismic hazard and risk assessment, ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs), a.k.a. attenuation equations, earthquake strong ground motion.


Elouie Lepiten
Instrumentation Specialist

Elouie's areas of expertise are in telecommunications system design and implementation, satellite communications system installation and troubleshooting, and 24/7 communications network operations. His main responsibilities are installation and maintenance of remote real-time seismic and near real-time sea level stations, and telecommunications support for earthquake monitoring and tsunami warning. Elouie's previous work involved monitoring and control of satellite links, satellite communication system design and implementation, and supervision of 24/7 satellite communications support to clients. Elouie holds a Bachelor Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from University of San Carlos, Philippines. He completed a special program on telecommunications at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.


J. Elaine J. Layung
Technical Specialist-Remote Sensing, GIS and Topographic Survey

J. Elaine is responsible for the development of the digital elevation model and gridded datasets. She supports RIMES tsunami risk assessment program, undertakes watch stander duties on rotational basis and carries out research on tsunami warning systems. J. Elaine has more than 10 years of experience in her field, having worked for private companies as a photogrammetric engineer and geospatial analyst, and for the Philippines' National Mapping and Resource Information Authority as a remote sensing technologist. She holds a Master of Engineering in Remote Sensing and GIS from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.


Wichan Sangwondee
Tsunami Watch Stander

Wichan currently serves tsunami watch stander duties on rotational basis, providing support in operating RIMES seismic and sea level monitoring systems and preparing tsunami watch to national warning centers. He is currently enrolled in a Bachelor Degree in Business Information System from the Burapha University in Chantaburi, Thailand.

Nguyen Tan Duoc
Research Institute for the Management of Seas and Islands (RIMSI), Vietnam

Nguyen Tan has been working as a researcher at the Research Institute for the Management of Seas and Islands from 2009 up to present. Some of the projects where he has been involved are the establishment of the decision support system for oil spill incident response in Thailand gulf, applying numerical models in wave field forecastingforThuaThien Hue coastal zone. He holds a Master Degree in Oceanography from the Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam, and a Bachelor Degree in Oceanography from the same university. At RIMES, Nguyen Tan is carrying out research on filtering of tsunami signal from sea level monitoring data.


Vi Van Vung

Vung has been working as a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics in Vietnam for two years. His research interests are seismic database and seismic application programming. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Physics from the Hanoi National University in Vietnam. At RIMES, Vi Van receives training on earthquake processing.


Pa Pa Tun

Pa Pa joined the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Myanmar in 2002 as a Junior Observer. Since 2009, she holds the position of Deputy Superintendent. Pa Pa holds a Master Degree in Disaster Management from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan, and a Master Degree in Engineering Physics from the Yangon University, Myanmar. At RIMES, she is receiving training on Tsunami Monitoring.
