Although RIMES was able to secure its essential warning services during the catastrophic floods that devastated Thailand late last year, enabling it to continue to deliver uninterrupted tsunami watch services, the global exchange of real-time seismic data from its regional network was disrupted when flood waters inundated RIMES offices, way above the anticipated flood level.  Under the collaboration between RIMES and the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), IRIS is assisting RIMES in restoring its satellite telemetry system to resume data exchange from RIMES to the IRIS Data Management Center, for global distribution.  A Letter of Understanding was signed on 27 February 2012 in this regard.

Under the RIMES-IRIS cooperation on real-time seismic data exchange, IRIS provides support for data archiving, curation, and distribution, while RIMES facilitates real-time data availability in SEED format from its remote stations.
