About The Event

 


       The objective of the forum is to prepare consensus seasonal climate outlook for the South Asian region that provides a consistent basis for preparing national level outlooks. Such platforms also serve to interact with user sector to understand and enhance the use of climate information. 

       Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Government of Nepal is hosting the fourteenth session of the South Asian Climate Outlook Forum (SASCOF-14) supported by the UK Met Office (UKMO) and Regional Integrated Multi-hazard Early-warning System for Asia and Africa (RIMES) through funds available under Asia Regional Resilience to a Changing Climate (ARRCC)Programme.

       SASCOF-14 will produce a consensus climate outlook for the upcoming South Asia monsoon season (June- September) and share with sectorial user agencies at national and regional level. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Nepal has taken a lead to host the 14th session of the SASCOF and will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal during April 22-23, 2019. SASCOF-14 will feature a “Climate Services User Forum” (CSUF) focused on the Water and Agriculture sector. CSUF will bring together experts in seasonal predictions and operational users from agricultural and water sector of South Asian countries creating a platform for understanding seasonal climate information to make
effective use of it for managing climate risks in the region.

       The Regional Climate Center (RCC), Pune of India Meteorological Department (IMD), UKMO, RIMES and WMO are providing technical support. Other Global Producing Centers (GPCs) and RCCs are expected to participate for contributing their seasonal and sub- seasonal products.
